The Planet Review
The Internet has put the whole world at our fingertips by making it possible to connect to people and organizations an all the far reaches of the globe. So, while The Planet hosting company has picked what may sound like a grandiose name, it is fairly appropriate considering the business they’re in.
The Planet, which has been around since 1998, is also an impressive operation in its own right that has interest spanning a large chunk of the globe. Their client list is comprised of over 20,000 businesses and they host over 15.7 million different web sites. 40 percent of their customers are based outside of North America. The company boasts a network capacity in excess of 130 gigabits a second. The company’s 500+ employees manage over 48,500 servers and operate six SAS 70 Type II certified data centers spread between Houston and Dallas and all the companies interests are monitored around the clock by two fully redundant operations centers.
This company specializes in dedicated server and server management services. While they are not catering to the budget site-hosting market, they have a wide range of services that make them an excellent hosting provider for most businesses. They offer simple dedicated servers for less than $100 a month, the option to have them host your own hardware or tailor made and scalable hosting solutions that can allow enterprises to completely outsource the major components of their IT infrastructure. They’ll also work with you to help you create the package that best suits your needs and budget. They even offer to beat the price of any other dedicated or managed server hosting package out there, provide that its equivalent to the servers they offer. All you have to do is submit a valid quote from one of their competitors.
The exact nature of the support services you will get as a customer depend on the packages you choose. The company essentially guarantees that network and power supply infrastructures are up 100% of the time, no matter what services you contract from them. You’ll also have access to tech support 24 around the clock. What that tech support covers varies though. If you bring in a server for them to run, and it breaks, they aren’t going to replace the parts for you. Not, at least, unless you pay for that service. If you’re willing to pay for the privilege, they handle literally any problem for you in a matter of minutes. It’s all a matter of what you really need and what you can afford. Having a team of engineers on standby simply isn’t practical in most cases, but it might be critical under certain circumstances.
In terms of dedicated hosting, The Planet offers a comprehensive list of services. The company can also rely on a stalwart reputation in the industry. They are known for quality service, reliability and delivering on their promises. They might not be the best if all you want to do is host a personal webpage, but they are a great choice for businesses looking for comprehensive solutions.

The Planet scared me off in the process of trying to order a server. I used another company that was pretty expensive. The Plant gave me a decent price so I decided to follow through. BIG MISTAKE !!!
I had so many problems with them just trying to order a server that I decided it would be a mistake. They did not deliver what I ordered, illegally charged me for a server that was never set up per instructions.
I am now in a battle with them over their charge to my bank account which was not authorized because they had never set up the server, did not quote the server I asked for and ignored the date after which the credit card authorization specifically expired.
Don’t trust them !!!
