You know, when you spend all day looking at webhosting companies, they all tend to blend together. This is a good thing in one sense because any substantial distinctions become highlighted and it enables you to get a fair sense of industry standards and practices. Still, it’s nice when a company can actually manage to surprise you. Just Host has a small Easter-egg hidden on their site for people who actually investigate all the nooks, crannies fine print. Admittedly, this cannot be the company’s main selling feature, but it’s a nice touch that is good for a laugh (and maybe something extra) and shows that someone on the other end is actually thinking about the people they’re dealing with.

Just Host is a good name for a company. They’re not jack-of-all-trades people, they are masters of one thing and proud of it. You can even take a glace the faces and biographies of most of their staff. Still, it’s time we started to take a look about the services you will actually get as a customer.

The company offers, essentially, one main package which consists of unlimited disk space, hosted domain, e-mail accounts and bandwidth allowance. You also have the ability to set up unlimited SQL databases and domains and you’ll be avail yourself of their site-builder software and implement CGI, Ruby, Perl and PHP scripts on your web pages. That’s not a bad deal for $3.95 a month. The basic package also comes with one free domain registration for life. The “Premium” package is essentially the same, but it includes the free registration of three domains for life.

The company will also host dedicated servers for its clients. Rates for such services start at $129.99 per month and consist of systems with Intel ATOM 330 Dual-core processors 2 GB of RAM, 320 GB SATA hard disks and bandwidth allotment of 3,000 GBs.

On top of their very respectable packages, the company also offers very good reliability. There system is based on load-balancing architecture that means redundant servers carry the appropriate data, so if one goes down your site should still be accessible. Still, to be fair, a 99.99 percent guaranteed uptime is the universal boast of pretty much every webhosting company with a webpage… Which is to say every webhosting company. Unlike other webhosts, however, it’s hard to find someone saying something bad about them. It happens, but the first thing you’ll find if you look up “Just Host sucks”, for example, is an article about how hard it is to find any negative comments about them, unlike many, many other webhosting companies that leave a swath of bad reviews in their wake.  You may Google “Just Host Scam” and find poorly written articles with “customer reviews” comments that look suspiciously fake.

Just Host backs up its service with tech support that can be contacted around the clock and, moreover, they offer a money back guarantee. The most common type of money back guarantee imposes as 30 day limit, but this company allows you to cancel their service anytime, repaying any money you have paid in advance, with the exclusion of extra registration fees. The point being, they stand by their product and don’t try to dazzle you and lock you into a contract from which you can’t extricate yourself. Worth a look.

Note: Since writing this review it has come to our editors’ attention that the frequency of complaints has risen significantly towards JustHost (specifically our this site). It is unclear why exactly this shift has occured, but it would appear that any of the following could be true.

1. This page ranks well in Google for biased terms like “Justhost Sucks” resulting in similar comments.
2. Jushost has more upset customers than other hosting companies in general
3. When Justhost upsets a customer, they do it so ferociously that their former customers feel compelled to scour the internet for a page to share their experience with other would-be Justhost customers.

We invite you to be the judge and make up your own mind.  If you decide against Justhost, you may consider going with Bluehost or Hostgator that have more solid reputations.  In fact, this site is hosted with Bluehost and we’ve never had any problems in over 2 years.

I tried to call to get information about transferring. Their sales people were all busy, so they transferred me to billing! I tried the on-line “live operator.” It was a fraud. She was a virtual! When I said, “Are you a real person?” She said, “You caught me!” Not a good way to do business with me!

Better check your references. BBB gave them a B rating and TrustLink.org is riddled with complaints about this company.

A good web hosting service so far…

I think it’s important to remember that all hosting companies have negative comments written about them. Keep in mind, people in general are far more likely to leave a negative comment if unsatisfied than a positive one if satisfied. When a customer is happy, they very rarely go around letting everyone know about their positive experience.

All this to say that although reading comments about a host is a good idea, it is only one element to look at in your search for a good host.

well, there are enough advantages in Justhost. what I like most is their time response. I am sure that I won’t leave alone with my problem. they, guys, are always here to help within 1 hour. THAT’S GREAT!

Just hosts support is very quick and has a very easy back end to install software such as wordpress and joomla. The only problem is they host my website in the USA. As a UK based company I understand it effects my ratings and will not appear highly in the UK search engines.
Apart from that I can recommend them.

I’ve been with Justhost for a year -, 3 domains, no problems so far.

My way of choosing a host provider includes the “Sucks Test” - search for the name, eg Justhost (5.4 million) vs “Justhost sucks“(43.6k) .
5.4m/43.6k = 123.8
Compare with say Bluehost (18.5M/253k) = 73.1
or Godaddy (88.64)

The higher the number - the more satisfied mentions for each ’sucks’ - by this measure Justhost is pretty good!

It’s not perfect - but its a little better than guessing :)

Oh really, because I’ve had almost nothing but terrible experiences from them? The first couple months were good, except for the fact that my site was down for at least a few hours every other day.

Finally, after about 5 months of hosting, my account was suspended for going over bandwith. Keep in mind that my website is a simple wordpress blog that at that time maybe 50-100 visits a day. Once my account was suspended I was not allowed to access cpanel, and the only way my account would be restored was to upgrade to the dedicated server, which is a lot to ask for a simple wordpress blog.

I’ve since moved to Dreamhost and have had no issues whatsoever. I thought I was done with justhost once and for all but now they have charged my account for another year of service, despite suspended and me cancelling my account.

Stay away from them.

Iam a linux reseller and i had one with justhost.com it but unlimitedgb.com’s hosting is very nice and i don’t have any issues till now.

This is the worst host on the web. If you ave more than one domain name it gets so confusing you can not get any response. The suport team seems confused, they give you wrong answers, bill has cancelled the wrong acount twice now. I am glad i dont depend on them to make a living.

Justhost’s offerings may be top notch and their tech support may be available 24/7, but that says nothing of their customer service. We tried to change our friend’s name serves from their default to their new hosting company and it just fell apart. We attempted to change it on the control panel - it never took. We had our friend call to make a direct request and Justhost said, “OK.” It never happened. Again our friend called and made the request and they told him to send the request via email. He did. They said they received it and that the switch would take effect in 2 to 48 hours.

Generally, once name servers are switched, it takes about 5 minutes to register with the Whois database and 24 to 48 to fully propagate across the internet. Although the Justhost agent said 2 hours, the Justhost help files read 24 to 48 hours. No one in the industry ever says 2 hours, it’s always 24 to 48 hours. 5 hours later, the new name servers still haven’t registered with the Whois database. Why? Because just like all the other times they didn’t change even though they said they would.

Our friend resent the email request and this time they said they couldn’t honor it because it didn’t come from the email address on file. He updated it in his control panel and then they said, “No. You have to update it HERE, not THERE.”

Now our friend is just pissed and at the end of his rope. Our only suggestion to him now is Go Daddy or Yahoo!. As registrars they’re both great. We use Yahoo! for our web hosting as well. But we have to wait for our friend to calm down so he can make a clear-headed decision.

As I read over the various complaints about Justhost I noticed that many people don’t read the fine print, so in that respect, they’re no so bad. But for the things in invisible print, their agents should at least be clear about what steps a customer needs to take.

Just Host is one of the worst companies I’ve ever dealt with.

justcrap 04.11.11 at 10:25 am

Justhost suspended my account for some unknown reason. I called and I was told I had to email them. I emailed them twice and received no response. I called again and was told that I need to email them. I told him that I emailed them twice and he said I need to email them to tell them that I emailed them. Realizing the ridiculousness of the situation, I began to raise my voice and the topic of conversation was no longer my problem but my raised voice so he hung up on me. I’ve been through seemingly intractable situations like this before and no one has ever treated me this way. This company sucks wind.

kelvin 05.04.11 at 2:18 pm

Justhost is the worst hosting company i have ever tried, it’s good if you host one domain with few HTML , and they have many limitation on your CPU usage, memory usage, iNODES, even how many files do you have on the server, if so , don’t call it unlimited hosting plan , it’s misleading.

I’ve been a 100% satisfied JustHost customer for about 3 years. In the last couple of months their whole service has turned into a nightmare!
I’ve had at least 10 outages recently, server is gone for hours to days each time.
I contact customer support and they always apologize for the inconvenience and they are working on it. Today the support rep “Lindsay” told me to “Have A Nice Day!!” and disconnected the session before I could say anything else.
Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.
This account hosts a few important websites, including a business, and I can’t continue with such an unreliable and unresponsive host. I don’t know what is going on there, but I’m switching hosts.
Do not start with JustHost! They used to be great. Not anymore.
Avoid!

Brick 09.06.11 at 8:22 pm

Among some very poor customer service, I have stuck with JustHost through my first year. I received my renewal notice on all 3 of my hosting accounts at one. The renewal amount after the first year was 60% MORE than what I originally paid for the first year. They informed me this was their current standard fee, however I checked their home page ads, and it was not. They blamed it on inflation, 60%, that’s crazy! I am working on closing all of my accounts.

Dave 11.14.11 at 9:02 pm

I had problems with set up and cpanel issues. After things were finally up and running, it wasn’t a problem. I just received an auto charge to my credit for nearly double my initial rate without any documentation on charges or why such a huge increase. To boot, my website has been offline now since they renewed my account. Trying to cancel from them is horrible. “Think you might need a refund, email…” Really, you guys suck. Absolutely horrible interface and service.

Seth 12.06.11 at 9:50 pm

Made the mistake of signing for a membership approximately a month ago. Almost from the onset, experienced numerous performance related problems. Despite submission of more than half a dozen trouble tickets, never received any tangible resolution. Problems included connectivity to backend database, inability to access WordPress admin panel, etc. Without notification, Just Host suspended my account for utilization of system resources in excess of 10%, which is highly doubtful. Without attempting to determine if a Denial of Service (DoS) or other cause was to blame, they promptly suspended my account and posted a large banner stating such on both of my websites. While the technical support number is 24/7, quite often actual access to the system occurs from persons in the Ukraine! To those considering JustHost.com, strongly recommend looking elsewhere for a hosting provider.

Sam 12.07.11 at 9:49 pm

Terrible service. Talk about the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. Billed but no service from tech support or from billing. E-mails get responses 7 days later
