UltraVNC Server Salvation

They say that no favor goes unpunished and if you’ve ever made the mistake of setting up a computer for a friend or relative who is on the computer-illiterate side of the spectrum, you’ll understand the problem. When you leave, everything is working fine and then suddenly, every day, a new problem crops up and you’re on the phone trying to walk someone through simple processes because they can’t be bothered to learn. The phone rings and before a hello you faced with the words “my e-mail doesn’t work,” to which you respond, “in what way does it not work?” which begets the inevitable trump response, “I don’t know, is just doesn’t work.” This is, of course, the international sign for “just make it work.” Troubleshooting anything when you’re dealing with someone who responds like this is essentially impossible. They’ll deny the existence of windows, menus or options because they can’t identify or find them, they’ll accidentally close a window and claim it “disappeared.” This is, very simply, why some people categorically refuse to get involved in other people’s technical difficulties, especially since there is never any recognition. No one would call up a plumber friend and have them snake their kitchen sink without offering to pay them or at least cook them a meal, but because they can’t physically see the difficulty in working with a computer they assume it’s easy. If you are one of the big-hearted people who want to help an UltraVNC server make the activity much less painful.

An UltraVNC Server has many applications and can save you incalculable headaches by allowing you operate computers from a distance, administer networks or the servers of clients. VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing and UltraVNC is way of creating a virtual desktop to represent someone else’s. Armed with such a tool, you can operate a computer remotely as though it’s right in front of you. This means that if you setup a VNC server on your computer that can connect to the computer you are trying to interact with, then you can provide technical support without needing the person you are trying to help to act as an intermediary. Naturally, the process won’t be as smooth as it would be if you were, actually, parked in front of the troubled computer and you won’t be able to troubleshoot hardware problems. The quality of your connection will determine the delay in initiating a function and having the remote computer respond, so some patience is required, but apart from that just about everything you can do with a computer you can do through an Ultra VNC connection.

UltraVNC is most commonly used by technical help desk personnel, but there are many other uses. IT departments sometimes use it to make modifications to computers on a network without having to physically access each computer. Companies that maintain the servers of other clients will find the software very useful, especially as an UltraVNC server can be used to monitor multiple computers at once. Other applications are found in online classroom environmenst. An instructor can provide individual presentations and offer tangible help to students remotely.
